Seb was a Home First Intern this year, spending three months working at Saxon Air, a private air charter based at Norwich Airport.
Having recently completed the programme, and accepting a place on the Aldi Area Manager graduate scheme for next year, Seb has shared about his experience with Home First, and what he enjoyed and learned in the proccess.
"After graduating from Durham, I knew I wanted to take a gap year to travel but to fund this I needed to earn money back in Norwich beforehand. I really wanted a way to proactively build my CV to help me in applying for grad schemes, so rather than taking the normal route of getting a standard temporary job for the Autumn, I applied for the Home First programme which I had heard about through LinkedIn. After passing the application and interview, Nigel placed me with the local business, SaxonAir, a private air travel charter company based at Norwich Airport. At SaxonAir I got to take on real responsibility and lead a project to create an induction for new employees, while also exploring the business and learning all about the aviation industry. I really feel it improved my confidence as a leader, and I’ll definitely be more comfortable leading in unfamiliar situations in the future. Attending the NelsonSpirit crew meetings alongside the job was also a real bonus; it was great to speak to and learn from a variety of different Norfolk business leaders, all of whom had interesting and inspirational stories to tell! After I’m back from travelling I’ll be starting on the Area Manager graduate scheme with Aldi, and I can confidently say that HomeFirst helped me in achieving this."
We are now welcoming applications for Home First 2020. For more information on the programme and how to apply, visit http://www.nelsonspirit.co.uk/vacanciesaspx
