Home First 2019 intern Polly started the programme as a gap year after graduating from the University of Nottingham and returning to Norfolk.
We asked her how Home First worked for her as a gap year option. Keep reading to see her response!
After graduating from the University of Nottingham, aware I was taking a gap year, I knew I needed to secure a job at home in Norwich to not only earn some money, but also to develop new and enhance existing skills. When I heard about the Home First programme
, it seemed too good to be true! I really believe that what Nigel has created is so well thought through and is a perfect fit for people like myself who have some time between finishing university and starting the next chapter of their lives: it really is a unique programme.
I have worked at the Norwich BID (Business Improvement District) for three months and have absolutely loved it. In that time, I have been in the VisitNorwich marketing team and have been given some real responsibility and challenging projects. I have aided the design and implementation of the new website (www.visitnorwich.co.uk
), alongside various other tasks. The skills I have gained and experience I have had have honestly exceeded my expectations of what I thought I would get out of this programme, and I am so grateful for that. They are skills I will carry with me into the future. In the new year, I am going travelling for four months before moving to London to start my career! I have been accepted on to the 2020 Teach First programme, teaching Early Years in the London region, and cannot wait to start. We are now welcoming applications for Home First 2020.
